Versaperm Limited, a world leader in water vapour permeability has introduced a new Permeability Meter for quality control.  Permeability is the key factor in everything from food packaging to electronic enclosures and from industrial seals to building components and even plastic petrol cans.

The new equipment can measure the permeability for water vapour and most gases – including, Hydrogen, Oxygen, CO2, solvents and hydrocarbons.  It can be used on material samples, finished products and packaging.

Problems with water vapour alone costs UK industry over a billion pounds a year – yet they can now be checked with a simple 30 minute measurement.

The new instrument is highly automated and simple to use, it requires little or no training to produce consistent and accurate results which, for most gases are accurate in the parts per million range.  Sensitivities vary with the specific set-up and sensors and applications, but are typically in the range 0.05 - 3200g/m2/day for water vapour.

A wide variety of options is available, depending on the specific application, but both single and multi-sample systems, plus a range of measurement chambers and sensors can be supplied for testing samples, which can range in size from a thimble up to a pallet load.

The company also operates a laboratory service to measure permeability for companies where the volume or logistics of measurements does not demand a dedicated instrument.
