Paper is one of the
most widely used materials in the world and most of its handling, printability
and quality characteristics are determined by its permeability to vapour,
or its coating’s permeability. Measuring this essential property
has now been made easier, faster and more accurate by a new instrument
developed and produced by permeability experts Versaperm.
The novel uses and technical demands on paper have changed substantially
over recent years. Marketers, printers, container manufacturers and other
users demand ever more advanced performance. The new Versaperm MK VI WVTR
has been produced in response to this need . It can accurately and consistently
measure the permeability of a wide variety of materials such as papers
and coatings - sometimes in as little as 30 minutes.
Conventionally gravimetric measurements take several days and give significantly
less reliable results.
The Versaperm WVTR (Water Vapour Transmission) MK VI meters’ highly
automated computerised control can cope with several samples at a time
giving results that can be accurate to better than one part per million
(with some samples a few parts per hundred million). Additionally the
instrument can be configured to measure the diffusion rates of most gaseous
elements (water, O2, CO2 etc).
Versaperm’s MK VI WVTR meter is accurate to better than a few parts
per million, with some samples a few parts per hundred million. Sensitivities
are in the range 0.05 – 3200g/m2/day.
A sample testing service is also available from the company - usually
with a 24 hour turn around.
