FABRICS
& MOISTURE - MAKING THE “MOIST” OF IT
Moisture vapour permeability
For many modern textiles and
fabrics one of the most important criteria to the way they perform is
moisture. It affects most of their physical characteristics. The big surprise
is that there is very little relationship between the way they react with
water and the way they react to water vapour. What might be an almost
total barrier to the one might be almost transparent to the other.
The solution is to measure
it and find out! – with a detailed vapour permeability testing service
from Versaperm – technology leaders in this complex field.
Versaperm’s service is
based on its own advanced design of WVTR (Water Vapour Transmission) meter,
which can quickly produce results that are accurate to better than one
part per million. The meter is around 100 times faster, and more accurate
than conventional gravimetric techniques.
It can be used on diverse range
of materials under varied conditions yet it can produce accurate and reliable
results to better than one part per million – sometimes in the parts
per hundreds of million range. With some materials these results can be
achieved in as little as 30 minutes, but even with
hard-to-measure impervious textiles, results can normally be turned around
in a day.
Sensitivities are in the range
0.05 – 3200g/m2/day and, for the technically minded, WVTR meters
can also be leased from the company on long term agreements.
