Versaperm Limited, a world leader in vapour permeability, has introduced a version of its Permeability Meter for caps and closures, that can not only measure  their water vapour permeability, but can be configured to measure it for a wide range of other industrial gases (eg Oxygen, Co2, hydrocarbons etc).

Producing good seals for plastic, metal or glass tubs, vials, bottles, cans, jars, tumblers, jugs pails and drums can be a very tricky business.  Not only can over-tightening actually allow more vapour through, but the material used for the seal is critical for both the physical seal and for preventing the flow of vapour through it.

Testing this with traditional gravimetric techniques can take from several to weeks, but the Versaperm Permeability meter can produces results considerably faster – in as little as 30 minutes for some materials.  Additionally, the same equipment can test samples of the material, the seal itself and/or the container as a whole.

The Versaperm Permeability meter is easy to use and highly accurate.  Sensitivities are in the specific vapour under test.  As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a vapour permeability laboratory service for companies that need to test samples on an irregular basis.
