Fabric testing equipment for waterproof, windproof and breathable textiles

As the ISO standard (15496:2004) for measuring the waterproofness, windproofness and breathability of textiles is gradually being overtaken by developments in technology, Versaperm has introduced two separate systems for this task. Firstly a modern, highly controlled gravimetric system, for compliance with the standard and secondly an instrumental system which is considerably faster, more repeatable and accurate.
|
With some fabrics the instrumental system can produce results in as little as thirty minutes, as opposed to the days or weeks for any ISO-based system.
The gravimetric system is ideal for producing standards-based results. The instrumental system is more suited to product development and the quality control of textiles, fabrics and garments. Most of these metals freely allow the passage of water as a vapour (breathable), but strongly resist it as both water droplets and wind.
Weatherproof fabrics are typically plain weaves with yarns coated with a durable water repellent finish. Many also have a microporous or monolithic film, coating, or bicomponent combination.
These materials are produced in massive quantities worldwide. However, for companies where their throughput is not high enough to warrant a dedicated instrument, the company provides a laboratory testing service.
Versaperm also offers a laboratory service based on either of these techniques for companies where the throughput does not justify a dedicated instrument on-site. |
