Versaperm has introduced a revolutionary solution for improving the quality of paper and coatings, tackling the industry’s long-standing challenges with vapour permeability. Paper, being inherently hygroscopic, is prone to warping, curling and disintegration when exposed to moisture. Excessive moisture can weaken fibres reducing mechanical strength and durability. Common coatings often fail to address issues like foam streaks, pinholes and pits, presenting significant quality challenges, especially with the growing use of environmentally sensitive biopolymer coatings.

Versaperm’s latest ultra-sensitive multi-gas vapour permeability meters are tailored specifically for the paper and coatings industries, offering swift and precise measurements. With accuracy levels reaching from Parts Per Million (PPM) to Parts Per Billion (PPB). The system can optionally evaluate vapour permeability not just for water vapour but also for oxygen, CO2, hydrocarbons and virtually any other gas or vapour combination. Its ability to detect changes inadvertently introduced during the manufacturing process makes it invaluable for both development and quality control.

Vapour permeability plays a vital role across multiple areas of the paper industry. For food and pharmaceutical packaging, it extends shelf life by ensuring controlled moisture transmission. In industrial applications, vapour-permeable wall linings help control condensation and improve internal environments. Hygienic and absorbent products benefit from engineered papers that absorb and transfer moisture effectively, providing comfort and utility.

The system also supports the growing demand for biodegradable and recyclable paper-based packaging as an alternative to plastics. In specialised technical papers, it ensures the low permeability needed for the insulation materials that protect electronics and transformers, as well as anti-corrosion papers that safeguard metallic components during shipping and storage.

Versaperm’s technology extends beyond paper and coatings, offering the ability to measure the permeability of films, laminates, foils and even sealed or finished cartons. For companies that require testing on an irregular basis, Versaperm provides laboratory and consultancy services to meet their needs.
