Versaperm Vapour Permeability measurement

Product quality & stability
in food, pharmaceutical & medical industries

    Semiconductor and microelectronic packaging

Versaperm today announced the further development of its specialist vapour permeability measurement equipment and services for the packaging materials used in the food, pharmaceutical and medical industries. As the use of regulated packaging continues to expand, accurate measurement of vapour transmission has become essential to ensure protection from contamination, shelf life and regulatory compliance.

Moisture passing through packaging materials can compromise food quality, pharmaceutical stability and medical product integrity. Versaperm provides vapour permeability measurement across the complex and variable nature of modern packaging materials including coated, encapsulated and multi-layer structures as well as fibre-based and degradable formats increasingly adopted for sustainability reasons.

Versaperm’s equipment enables reliable assessment of barrier performance while accounting for the influence of porosity coating, continuity pinholes microvoids and micro cracking.  These have a disproportionate effect on vapour transmission in advanced materials. By replicating realistic humidity gradients, the data generated is directly relevant to storage distribution and end use conditions rather than idealised laboratory environments.

In addition to water vapour Versaperm’s equipment can accurately determine the permeability of virtually all gases or gas mixtures with just a single measurement. This includes gases used in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), medical gases, contaminants and any volatile or aromatic compounds of interest. Measurements can be made precisely and under controlled conditions allowing customers to build a more complete understanding of package behaviour when required.

For food packaging applications this supports the control of freshness texture and shelf life. For pharmaceutical and medical industries, it provides confidence that moisture ingress will not compromise stability, sterility or regulatory compliance. As sustainability targets continue to drive the adoption of fibre-based and degradable packaging Versaperm’s specialist vapour permeability measurement helps ensure that environmental objectives are met without sacrificing technical performance.

The company works with customers across the full development and production cycle from early-stage research and material selection through to coating optimisation, supplier qualification, quality control and failure investigation. As well as supplying permeability measurement systems Versaperm can provide a fast turnaround laboratory testing and consultancy service.
