The packaging of drugs and medical supplies plays a very different role to conventional packaging as it has the added and critical burden of keeping the contents sterile and contaminate free.  This is easier said than done as many contaminants sneak in through the packaging material itself.  The most widespread contaminants are water vapour plus impurities, which are omnipresent and notoriously difficult to keep out.

Versaperm’s new multi-gas Permeability Meter can measure the permeability directly – not just for water vapour, but also for Oxygen, CO2, solvents, and most other gases.  It only takes around one per cent of the time needed for conventional (gravimetric) permeability measurements.   

The new version of the meter usually measures to an accuracy in the parts per million range, or parts per billion for some gases and materials. 

The equipment can be used on almost any packaging type – from blister packaging to foil laminates and from analytical instrument to capsules to inhalers, syringes, sterile and bandages.  It can even measure materials that decompose using standard methods.
