Medical packaging has to keep products undamaged, sterile and contamination free.   Often this is easier said than done as many contaminants seek in through the material walls of the packaging or casing.  The most widespread contaminant is water vapour, which is omnipresent, incredibly invasive and notoriously difficult to keep out.

Fortunately Versaperm’s new multi-gas Permeability Meter can measure the permeability directly – not just for water vapour, but also for Oxygen, CO₂, solvents, hydrocarbons and most other gases.  And it takes only around one percent of the time needed for conventional (gravimetric) measurements.   

The new version of the permeability meter can measure to an accuracy in the  parts per million range, even parts per billion for some gases and materials. 

The meter can be used on huge range of materials and enclosures – from capsules to foil laminates and from blister packaging to inhalers, syringes, sterile bandages  and analytical instrument enclosures.  It can also provide measurements of substances that might otherwise be decomposed by normal measurement techniques.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a consultancy and a permeability laboratory service for companies that need to test samples on an irregular basis.
