Plastic and card based packaging products protect their contents from damage, contamination and water. For food, pharmaceuticals and healthcare the last two can have a dramatic effect. For paper and card based packs physical strength is often even more important. All of these, not to mention print quality, are critically controlled by the same thing – Permeability, most often water vapour permeability.
Versaperm's latest range of equipment is designed to measure not just water vapour permeability but also the permeability for CO2, oxygen, hydrocarbons and almost every other gas in use today. This allows manufacturers to produce increasingly effective packaging that protects, as well as extends product life and boosts quality.
Permeability is the main controlling factor of an enormous range of products and processes – applications range from cornflakes to drugs and from plastic bottles to the sacks used for plaster and cement.
Now, thanks to Versaperm, measuring how vapours permeate through packaging has become a lot easier. The equipment is fast and reliable - producing results that are accurate in the parts per million range, (parts per billion in some cases). For some packaging designs this can take as little as 30 minutes. The system can optionally control temperature, pressure and other important factors as well.
A very wide range of variations and sensors is available, depending on the application. Multi-chamber systems allow measurements to be produced on several samples at the same time and different designs and clamping systems cater for varying sample types.
As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a technical consultancy plus a permeability testing service for companies that need to test samples on an irregular basis.
