If you produce packed foods, fruits or vegetables and want them to live long while you prosper, then you probably need one of the latest packaging vapour permeability testing systems from Versaperm - which enables you to optimise your MAP (or other) packaging.

Foods, snacks and frozen produce go off, go bad, go stale, go soggy, lose flavour, lose goodness and lose appeal.  Controlling the atmosphere with the perfect, often customised, packaging will help you extend, sometimes dramatically, shelf life.  Eight fold life extensions are not difficult to achieve for some foods. But to do that you need to measure the vapour permeability during both packaging development and quality control.

In most cases shelf life is controlled by oxygen, which sometimes has to be included, sometimes excluded, but always controlled – often with the addition of MAP gasses such as nitrogen and CO2.  The Versaperm equipment lets you test this and even helps you with the process of building your own multi-layer laminates to optimise the packaging for products in any atmospheres.

With fresh produce, the plant ripening hormone ethylene is usually important (although this reaction is also controlled by oxygen) and the Versaperm equipment can measure ethylene permeability as well.

Versaperm equipment is already used by many of the world's leading manufacturers and the latest range usually provides results in the parts per million (PPM) range, often in as little as 30 minutes.  Additionally, the equipment can measure permeability not just for oxygen, but for oxygen, water vapour, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon, ethylene and all other relevant gasses and vapours.

Versaperm is a world-technology leader and as well as the equipment, offers a fast turn-around laboratory-based vapour permeability measurement service and a technical consultancy.

Getting it right can extend shelf life by days, weeks or even months for some products.  As a bonus, the customers get fresher, longer lasting and tastier food – so that you can prosper.
