The latest generation of flexible light-emitting diodes (OLED) displays, and other optoelectronic components are extremely susceptible to degradation from both moisture and oxygen, securing proper protection against these vapours is a decisive factor in achieving a long working life. This is a major hurdle in the introduction of flexible OLEDs into the commercial market.
This problem is typically resolved by the use of polymeric substrates with multi-layered barrier coatings comprising alternating organic/inorganic layers but it is critical that the vapour permeability of each layer and structure needs to be accurately determined and controlled – and that's where Versaperm comes in.
Versaperm is a world leader in vapour permeability technology and has developed techniques and instrumentation for measuring the coatings both individually and as compound structures. Independent measurements are also produced for water vapour and oxygen permeability.
