Gasses Always Leak

Permeability - the Barrier To Aero-Engine Performance

Surprisingly, the reason the Challenger Space shuttle exploded had the same cause as why printers jam, why tubing, valves and seals leak, and even why drugs loose potency.  It costs the UK over a billion pounds every year.  The root problem is permeability - water vapour and all other gases can simply permeate through seals and barriers, sometimes with alarming ease.  The solution is fast and accurate measurements – and Versaperm is a world technology leader.

Choosing the right material for a specific job, and ensuring that each new batch of it meets its specification, can virtually eliminate most of the problems.  This used to be expensive and very time consuming – but now it can take as little as thirty minutes with some materials using the latest Versaperm equipment range.

Accuracies are in the Parts Per Million (PPM) range, (PPB for some gases and materials) and the equipment can measure several samples at a time.  It is also easy to use, needing no re-calibration and minimal training.

Versaperm’s range can be used on huge range of materials and most gases – including water vapour, medical gases, oxygen, CO2 and even hydrocarbons enclosures.  It can measure the permeability of tubing, seals, valves, materials, coatings and even complex assemblies

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm also offers a water vapour permeability laboratory service for companies that need to test samples on an irregular basis.
